SURFACING ROUTER MDF BED BOARD

IN PROGRESS
I have been using a 16mm MDF board for some years now. It has proven to be extremely effective & Accurate along with being easy to re-surface and very  inexpensive to replace. This video shows how I re-surfaced it after installation of the new Z-Axis assembly.

PROJECT INDEX
The final step (not shown in the video or images) is to spray the surface with a clear satin or gloss finish (the edges and back were previously sprayed when the board was first made). This protects the board from absorbing moisture, but more importantly provides better adhesion of the Double Sided tape I use to hold down the job material. I remove the board from the router to spray it. It is easy to re-position as I have a piece of aluminium extrusion at the far end of the bed that the board buts up against to restore its location. I usually re-surface each board about 5 times as needed and replace it once/year. One note is that accuracy in the Z-Axis when engraving Acrylic  is not of too extreme importance considering that Cast Acrylic usually has a manufacturing thickness tolerance of about 5%. Worth keeping in mind when setting up the cutting depths in the CAM package.
